Books || May Book Haul / What I've been reading

Purchases:

Aesop's Fabels : I picked up this beautiful old edition on my last day of my placement in Harpden from the Oxfam bookshop there after eyeing it up a week earlier I was so glad to see that someone else hadn't snapped it up yet by some miracle! I just love the beautiful old illustrations, that's always what sucks me in when buying old editions of books (especially kids ones, I did the same with edition of Peter Pan and Wendy the week before, which I think it's around 100 years old - a bargain for £2.99). If you live near an I'd strongly urge going and taking a look, for the age of some of the books I've gotten from the ones I've visited the prices are ridiculous (in a good way) I just love the history of the books and seeing who's owned it and if there's a message inside from someone else or notes the owner has made.

Far From the Madding Crowd - Thomas Hardy
At the beginning of the month I went to see the film adaptation, but I'd never read the book. Having not read the book before I don't have the best view to judge the film, but I really enjoyed it - although slightly biased as I do LOVE Carey Mulligan. Anyway, I'm not one to ever just watch the film so the book immediately went to the top of my to buy list and it took only 2 days before the purchase was made.

The Tell-Tale Heart (Penguin Little Black Classics #31) - Edgar Allen Poe
So I managed to resist buying any more of these last month, but this month I discovered the Foyles in Waterloo and how beautifully they had all 80 placed together (rather than Waterstones keeping them here there and everywhere, making it a frustrating hunt for the ones you want). This was originally on my to buy list when I first looked at the 80, but never got hold of it. I may have to re-watch the Gilmore Girls episode of the Faux Poes Foes after reading this.

Quentin Blake's Nursery Rhyme Book - Quentin Blake
I picked this up in the gift shop at the Museum of Childhood, as I always loved Quentin Blake when I was younger and I love picking up books like this. More of a novelty than anything, but it's a book nonetheless so rightfully has a place in this haul.

Hunches in Bunches - Dr Seuss

Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose - Dr Seuss

Millie Marotta's Animal Kingdom a colouring book adventure
I have been waiting for ages to get one of these colouring books and after seeing this one for £3.99 in Sainsburys I had to pick it up, it's just so therapeutic.

Station Eleven - Emily St. John Mandel
As someone who is a fan of dystopian fiction this was recommended to me whilst I was at work experience last month and was lucky enough to be bought a copy. When I was in Waterstones the woman behind the til could not rave enough about the book so I look forward to reading it soon.

What I've been reading:

How to Build a Girl - Caitlin Moran
Genuinely laugh out loud funny, filthy and overall a great story about growing up and 'finding yourself'. I think everyone can see a small part of themselves in Johanna Morigan, the wanting to be someone other than yourself, experimenting with alcohol, wanting to be kissed and have sex and doing the wrong things because at the time you think it's the right thing to do. I haven't read any Caitlin Moran in the past but I can see myself reaching for more after this.

Little lies - Lianne Moriaty
I just loved the mystery and the constant shift of perspective and not knowing who to trust or what everyone was up to. The intrigue kept me going.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K.Rowling

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - J.K.Rowling

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - J.K.Rowling

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - J.K.Rowling
(Blog post coming Thursday)

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - J.K.Rowling

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - J.K.Rowling
